Not only in summer is the Alpendorf and the surrounding area one of the most beautiful places for hikes and excursions – NO also in winter. Trudge through the snow and enjoy the winter landscape – we have some tips for your hike. You can rent snowshoes at the Sonnhof village rental. We are also happy to organize a guided tour on request.

The deep snow-covered Pongau winter landscape can be enjoyed most comfortably during an atmospheric carriage ride. Snuggled up warmly in blankets, you glide through the wintry silence by horse-drawn sleigh or carriage with a view of the imposing Hochkönig and its alpine entourage. It doesn’t get more romantic than this! If you are interested, please ask at the reception and plan at least one day in advance.

In the middle of the picturesque center of Sankt Johann Alpendorf you have the opportunity to put your ice skating skills to the test. The open air artificial ice rink is open from mid-November to mid-February – even when temperatures are mild. Shoes can be rented on site.

Cross-country skiing is experiencing a real boom right now. Of course you can also start directly from St. Johann into the Salzburg cross-country skiing mecca with its interconnected network of 220 groomed kilometers. Here you have 3 perfectly groomed trails at your disposal.

The toboggan is one of the oldest winter sports equipment in the Alps – an absolute classic that is great fun for all age groups. The region around St. Johann im Pongau has a total of 17 easy and moderately difficult toboggan runs to offer. The ascent can be made either by lift or on foot. You can get the toboggan quite comfortably in the hotel’s own village rental. For a warm-up we recommend our “house tracks”: The natural toboggan runs Hahnbaum and Alpendorf.

Enjoy the winter idyll in untouched snowy landscape and experience dreamlike sunrises or mystical moonlight tours by touring ski. This idea is attracting more and more athletes, and the range of tours on offer is now correspondingly large: In the St. Johann im Pongau region, 167 varied touring ski routes are on offer. Many of them start in the neighboring Grossarl Valley – the “Valley of the Alms”. But also on the doorstep of the Sonnhof Alpendorf offers one or the other worthwhile challenge.
